Return to Road Trips Home

We spend a beautiful weekend in Astoria, where the Columbia River meets the Pacific Ocean in the northwest corner of Oregon. Besides taking in the incredible views from the Astoria Column, we drove the 4.1 miles over the Astoria-Megler Bridge that crosses the Columbia River between Oregon and Washington. After a rest stop on the Washington side—where we saw a '55 Thunderbird and a '59 Cadillac Fleetwood limo—we drove U.S. 101 along the coast, stopped at Oswald West State Park for some beautiful views of Nehalem Bay, and enjoyed some ice cream at the home of Tillamook Cheese before finally heading home.
